The study was conducted to develop an automated smoking machine for tinapa processing which integrates the functions of a biomass-fired smoke generator and smoking chamber through automation and control. The machine maintains and monitors the conditions both for hot and cold smoking, wherein specific temperature range are critical. During hot smoking, the smoke temperature is maintained between 77°C to 85°C while in cold smoking, temperature ranges from 30°C to 60°C. The smoking machine has a theoretical capacity of 50 kg per batch of operation. Preliminary and subsequent testing and evaluation activities proved that the machine can precisely maintain the desired processing conditions. The tendency of the smoke to travel from the generator to the smoking chamber was also proven and the distribution may potentially be kept uniform within the chamber. The economic analysis of the machine revealed an initial investment of Php 197,421.00 was taken as the sum of the cost for machine construction, automated control system, and electrical equipment and a projected annual cost of Php199,948.09. Some basic assumptions revealed that a calculated break-even point of 74,630.65 kg of tinapa, a payback period of 3.22 years and a benefit-cost ratio of 1.019. Moreover, the return on investment (ROI) for this machine was also computed at 16.18 percent. </abstract>
