520 _aFelizardo, Roseanne A., Applied Research IV (General Science Curriculum) Laboratory Science High School, Cavite State University-Rosario Campus 2008. "Effects of Different Botanical Herbs as Cockroach Repellant". Adviser. Mr. Darren E. Dumaop The research study entitled, "Effects of Different Botanical Herbs (Lantana, Madre Cacao, Oregano) as Cockroach Repellant" was undertaken at Cavite State University-Rosario from October 23, 2007 to November 23, 2008. The study dealt with the application of the extracted herbs namely Lantana (Lantana camara), Madre Cacao (Gliricidia sepium), and Oregano (Origanum vulgare). In this study, the word repellant is described as one which drives away the insects. Generally, this study aimed to determine the effects of the botanical herbs on cockroaches. Specifically, this study intended to: (1) to test the effect of different botanical herbs as cockroach repellant; (2) to compare the effects of the different treatments on cockroaches; and (3) to identify the most effective treatment in repelling cockroaches. The experimental design used was the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two replications and four treatments. The first treatment was the mixture of the 15mL commercial insect repellant (Off Spray) and 15mL distilled water which served as the control treatment. The three remaining treatments were consisted of the botanical herbs extracts mixture (botanical herb extract 10mL distilled water for each treatment). Moreover, on the first replication two cockroaches were placed in each treatment (TR. T₂R, TR. T4R) and two cockroaches were also placed in each treatment on the second replication (TR₂, T2R2, T3R2, TR₂). Using the One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) method as the statistical treatment, at 0.05 level of significance, the F ratio value of 2.8627 was less than the F tabulated value of 3.49. It revealed that the null hypothesis was accepted and the alternative hypothesis was rejected. Thus, there is no significant difference on the effects of different treatments (Lantana, Madre Cacao, Oregano) as cockroach repellant. This means that the effects of botanical herbs were comparable the same to commercial insect repellant. Therefore, Lantana, Madre Cacao, and Oregano were effective cockroach repellant that may be used as an alternative to chemical insect repellants.
