The main purpose of the study was to develop a Gasoline Engine Trainer for Stationary Marine Technology. Specifically this study aimed to: (1) design a gasoline engine trainer; (2) construct a gasoline engine trainer; (3) evaluate the performance of gasoline engine trainer in terms of: functionality based on normal operation of gasoline engine and evaluating the gasoline engine trainer using self-made five learning elements. (4) conduct a cost analysis for the Gasoline Engine Trainer.
This project is composed of the following major parts: 1) Spark plug which is used to ignite the fuel and cause a controlled explosion in the engine; 2) Valve are engine parts allow for fuel and air to enter the combustion chamber and later let the exhaust out; 3) Piston rings are a cylindrical piece of the metal that is located inside the cylinder of the engine; 4) Sump surrounding the crankshaft contains some amount of oil; 5) Cylinder block is a main part of an engine. It is a part in which combustion of fuel takes place. All other parts like piston, connecting rod, crankshaft, water jacket are bolted on it; 6) Cylinder Head is fitted on the top of the cylinder block and the function of the cylinder head is to seal the working end of cylinder and not to permit entry and exit of gases on cover head valves of the engine. The valves, spark plug, camshaft are fitted on it;7) Connecting Rod connects piston to the crank shaft and transmit the motion and the thrust of piston to crank shaft. The lower end of connecting rod is connected to the crank shaft, Crank shaft is located in the bottom end of cylinder block; Camshaft is fitted either in the cylinder head or at the bottom of the cylinder block. It is used to open or close valves at proper timing in multi-cylinder engine: 9) Push rod is used when the camshaft is situated in the bottom of the cylinder head. It regulates the timing of valve open and close through rocker arm and camshaft, manifold, it is bolted on the cylinder head one each for intake and exhaust. Its function is to evenly distribute air-fuel mixture for intake and collect the exhaust gases from all cylinders; and 10) the stand of gasoline engine which is movable.
