DELA TORRE, JOHN ANDY M., LABID, JAYSON B., and LITONJUA, ROUPHERT KENOE D. Development of Electronic Mousetrap. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology, major in Electronics Technology. Cavite State University, Rosario, Cavite. June 2017. Adviser: Mr. Nemrod M. Zoleta. Technical critic: Mrs. Janice D. Marquez.
The study was conducted from March 2016 to June 2017 at Cavite State University Rosario Campus in TVEP Building to develop and evaluate the electronic mousetrap. Specifically, the study aimed to. 1) design electronic mousetrap; 2) construct electronic mousetrap from supply and materials available from local market; 3) evaluate the prototype in terms of number of rodent trap in different location, sensitivity of sensor, Battery voltage and output voltage of paralyzer system and its effect to the rodent, and lifespan of the battery; and 4) conduct cost analysis for the rechargeable electronic mousetrap.
The prototype was constructed with Two (2) major parts namely: sensing circuitry and the paralyzer system. The sensing circuit has a rechargeable battery of 12V DC.
The sensing activity was operated by the PIR or passive infrared sensor (PIR).In operation when the sensor senses the solenoid reacts then push the door automatically. The paralyzer system causes electric shock to the rodent.
The developed study was composed of four (4) compartments made of fiber glass with the total size of 47cm x 30cm x 13cm; every compartment has a size of 21cm x 16cm x 13cm; with passive infrared sensor (PIR), solenoid and it has own paralyzer system. Any size of the rodents can be detected by the sensor. The rodents can detect only by the sensor when below on it. The prototype can catch and paralyze up to 4 rodents, 1 for each trap compartment. The paralyzer system can be activated automatically or manually. A selector switch was provided for both automatic and manual operation. In automatic operation, the paralyzer was activated when the doors drop down that takes about 10 seconds to paralyze the rodents. In manual operation, the paralyzer was activated using another push button normally open switch when all doors were closed. The prototype was designed to be rechargeable using 12V DC power supply.
The prototype paralyzer system has 8kV - 8.1 kV DC output for 12V DC source but it is safe for the user because it will not energize unless the door is closed. The prototype was tested in different area like rice field, food stall, and drainage.
Based on the testing and evaluation, the drainage area has the greater number of rodents been catch. The sensitivity of the mousetrap and time of activation of the paralyzer system was adjustable, 0.1 cm to 10 cm was the required distance to sense the rodent. It takes 5 hours to operate the automatic door and 4 hours for paralyzer system, and 300 minutes or 5 hours to discharge the battery of the prototype. The total cost of the prototype was PHP.6,986.00.
