The study was conducted in Cavite from January 2014 to February 2015 in order to develop an enhanced irrigation monitoring system. It was intended to: 1.) design and construct a web-based irrigation monitoring system that can monitor the operation of an automated drip irrigation system with the aid of soil moisture sensor; and 2.) test and evaluate the performance of the a web-based irrigation monitoring system with regards to transferring of data from the sensor to the web interface.

The development of a web-based irrigation monitoring system used iterative model which began with planning to determine some factors in applying irrigation like soil, crop water requirement, and the materials used in the interface such as Ethernet shield, Arduino Uno, soil moisture sensor, dht22, relay, solenoid valve and plumbing connectors. The researchers used alpha testing for individual component testing. Beta testing was conducted with the integrated components and program in an actual environment.

The system performs moisture content data monitoring that is fast and in real-time, which is significant for the automatic’ irrigation of the crops without human assistance. The system can provide useful graphs and compilation of moisture content, temperature and humidity data, which are helpful to its prospective users, specifically the farmers. It can allow remote viewing of the data, aside from the viewing from the server.
