Specifically, this study aimed to: 1) design a rechargeable mini heat gun. 2)construct a rechargeable mini heat gun from available materials in the local market. 3) evaluate the performance of the prototype in terms of accuracy of the prototype, time period of heating the PVC pipe, time of bending the PVC pipe, discharging time and charging time of the prototype. 4) conduct a cost analysis for the rechargeable mini heat gun. The prototype was constructed in different parts such; lithium - ion battery, indicator switch circuit, fan and heating element. 4Ah 18VDC lithium - ion battery with a current of 3A was used to supply power to the prototype. The indicator switch circuit serves for turning on and off the prototype. The 8cm diameter fan blows air to the heating element that produced a hot air for bending PVC pipes. The glow plug with a rating 12VDC, serves as the heating element of the prototype. The developed prototype size was 6.4cm diameter and length of 27.9 cm made by PVC tube for the as body of the prototype and metal tube for the carrier of heating element. 4Ah battery was used as power storage of the prototype. The prototype can bend two PVC pipe with 90° angle in it full charge condition until it discharge. The PVC pipe could be bent in 6 minutes for every piece. The prototype can bend sizes of PVC pipe of 1/2" ø,1" ø and 3/4” ø. The safety of the prototype was evaluated by getting the temperature of its external parts while using and after using. The finding shows that body, heat guard and battery increased the temperature from around 34°C initial temperature up to 85°C. After using the prototype, it was safe to touch specially the nozzle after 30 minutes of cooling. The accessibility and safety in using the prototype was evaluated by three individuals that have knowledge in bending PVC pipe, the assessors noted that the prototype was easy to grip but it was partially heavy. They also told that the prototype was safe to use but it should be avoided pointing to other people while in energize state. The prototype can be easily off and tightly hold the battery for safety . The total cost of the prototype was PHP 8,756.80.

ABSTRACT

ALCOZAR,AXEL JOY A., ALFREDO,JOREM R. and BALIGUAS,HERVEY Q. Development and Evaluation of Rechargeable Mini Heat Gun. Undergraduate Thesis Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Major in Electrical Technology. Cavite State University,Rosario, Cavite. April 2017. Adviser: Mr. Nonilo G. Evangelista.

The study was conducted from August 2016 to April 2017 at Cavite State University Rosario Campus in TVEP Building to develop and evaluate the rechargeable mini heat gun.
