ATIGA, JONALYN S., CAYANGA, ARIEL C., and RAFINIAN, JOSEPH B. Development of Weed Splinter. Undergraduate Design Project Study. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology. Cavite State University Rosario Campus, Rosario, Cavite. March 2017.Adviser: Lauro B. Pascua, Ed.D. Technical critic: Mr. Rodelio Atienza.
The study was conducted from July 2015 to April 2017 to develop Weed Splinter specifically, the project aimed to: 1.) design a weed splinter 2.) construct a device for cutting weeds made from available materials in the local market 3.) evaluate the performance of the project in terms of a.) time of cutting weeds with and without the splinter in specific land area b.) volume reduction in terms of sacks; 4.) conduct the cost analysis of the prototype.
Weed Splinter was developed to test the ability of the device using splinter or without splinter in cutting grass. It has a one (1) horse power motor, splinter and lawn mower using gasoline to cut grasses and refines the weed to reduce its volume and evaluate the result.
It has a gasoline mower which act as the source of first cutting motion and the vacuum pump has a “round” plastic shape connected on it that push upward to sip the weed. The vacuum hose was connected on the upper metal based in the weed splinter through the cutting motor to refine the weed.
The device can cut grass with a minimum height of 5 centimeter and maximum height of 40 centimeter level of the weed. The project was faster in cutting weeds using the splinter than without the splinter. It can reduced the volume of grass being cut as compared to the cut grass without the splinter. The project function well in cutting weeds and other wild plants that grows abundantly especially during summer where the heat of the sun was intense. The total cost of the project is PHP 48,182.23.
