Summary: This book will provide the students an overview on the development of Philippine literature from the pre-colonial period to the 21st century literature. The first three chapters are specifically focused on Philippine literature: the first chapter shows examples of epics and prose narrative such as myths, legends, fables and folktales that existed even before the arrival of Spanish colonizers, and new literary genres introduced by the Spaniards and Americans such as poems and essays. The seond chapter allows our students to be acquainted with the selected masterpieces produced by the Philippines' national artists for literature. The third chapter concentrates on literary works written in the 21st century and showcase contemporary values and beliefs of the millennials and the Generation Z. Each chapter, activities are provided not only to test their understanding of the literary work but also to further stimulate their thinking skills. The subject teacher, on the other hand, can further include other activities that can highten the student's interest in reading and appreciating literature in this era of smartphones and laptops. Studying literature is not limted to simply reading for enjoyment, but literature allows us to understand the thoughts and experiences of the people around us, not only here in the Philippines but also from aother regions of the wotld.
