Arcal. <br/><br/>The study was conducted from December 2018 to May 2019 to develop BioID, an electronic identification system that uses fingerprint scan and quick response code for patients in clinics. Specifically, the study aimed to 1.) document current practices of storage and retrieval of medical records in rural health units; 2.) design an adaptable electronic patient identification system using fingerprint scan and QR code; 3.) construct the software and fabricate the prototype of the system; 4.) integrate the device to the database and a web application for patient enrolment and/or viewing of patient information and their medical records; 5.) and test and evaluate the device. <br/><br/>BioID is a multi-access scanning device for fingerprint and QR code designed to automate the manual process of identifying patients. The device is connected to a web application that serve as a portal to correctly identify patients and track their medical record history. The developers tested and evaluated BioID in terms of accuracy, reliability, speed, security, and perception of the end-users on the design of the system. <br/><br/>Based on the results of the evaluation, the system speeds up the process of patient identification and medical record retrieval time. Average processing time is around 9 seconds in searching via fingerprint while around 5 seconds in searching via QR code.
