A Enterprise Development Project (BSBM)--Cavite State University-CCAT Campus, 2011.
Includes bibliographical references and appendices.
An Enterprise Development Project named "Choco Carousel" was conducted from 5th day of December to 24th day of February in selling chocolate candies and from 14th day of December 2010 to 25th day of February 2011 for chocolate dips in Gen. Trias and Rosario, Cavite. The term "Choco" was derived from the word chocolate from Nahuatl word chocolatl, which literally means "bitter water" and "carousel" for the spinning movement of the chocolate inside the chocolate fountain. The business Choco Carousel was engaged on the production and marketing of chocolate candies and chocolate coated products through the use of chocolate fountain. The two varieties of chocolate candies are milk chocolate and cookies n' cream, while the dips are champola, marshmallow, cookies, biscuits and pretzels which will be dipped on a white and regular milk chocolate fondue. The proponents contributed the initial capital of Php7, 500.00 to finance the project.
The project focused on establishing a business engaged in the production and marketing of Choco Carousel. It provided the students an opportunity to apply and enhance their knowledge and skills in marketing. Specifically, it aims to apply general knowledge and skills in marketing, develop the knowledge of the entrepreneurs in marketing a product, know the profitability of the Choco Carousel products, and identify and find solutions to the problems encountered during the operation of the business.
Choco Carousel experienced some problems that affected the business operation. To overcome this problem, the entrepreneurs did some corrective action. Limited knowledge in producing the chocolate fondue was one of the problems encountered by the entrepreneurs before the operation started. To overcome this problem, the entrepreneurs visited the internet and asked some help from other people especially caterers, who have the general knowledge about this kind of business. Another was the disapproval of the construction and use of stall inside the school which affects its opening schedule. To solve this, the entrepreneurs immediately looked for other strategic places to operate the business.
During the operation, the continuous price increase of the ingredients and materials needed in producing the product also affected the business operation. Therefore, the entrepreneur found alternative materials such as biscuits and find stores offering the same product at lower prices. Another was the increase of prices of the raw materials used in the operation. To overcome this, only one of the entrepreneurs was assigned to purchase the raw materials and also to find some help from relatives who go the same market to buy the materials needed in the operation. This also helped them to lessen transportation expenses and time.
The entrepreneurs learned many things and adopted different strategies in operating the business. They handled their small business through planning, organizing, directing and controlling. They also concluded that setting up their standards or goals guided them to success. Proper planning and good decision making was important to achieve these goals. And it was also an important task to cheer or motivate each other. The marketing of Choco Carousel was done through direct and personal selling.
Doing an Enterprise Development Project (EDP) was an unforgettable experience for Business Management students like us. Unforgettable because besides applying the general knowledge that we learned from the university, we were also able to acquire some knowledge from our actual experience. The entrepreneurs also learned to plan, think and adopt different strategies from the actual operation. In conducting a small business, the entrepreneurs learned to handle problems and embrace the things that they learned from the university especially when problems arose. They also learned how to allocate their resources effectively and how to deal with different people with different personalities.
The result of the study can be used as references by those students in conducting the same type of research. Entrepreneurs should be aware and knowledgeable in marketing and business management to easily cope up with problems and should be good in making decisions.
The entrepreneurs are planning to continue the business after graduation. They will also plan to open their own joint account.
They are planning to purchase a bigger chocolate fountain to attract more customers. They also plan to purchase more tools and equipment needed in the business and hire staff to increase their production. They are also plan to improve their packaging and put a logo on it in order to attract the interest of the people and to advertise the product as well. They will also continue on finding more effective strategies to improve sales. They also have a plan to have their own web-site and advertise their product through on-line. And they will also accept new product ideas to improve the product and to make the business more successful.
And when the business works well, they are planning to have more stands and which will be located on different schools and universities.
