CARZANO, ERLIN JOY L., CESA, MERRY ROSE P., and LORESTO, ALEXIS T. Development of Digital Multipurpose Compass. Design Project, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology major in Drafting Technology, Cavite State University, Rosario, Cavite September 2018. Adviser: Mr. Christopher G. Estonilo. Technical critic: Mr. William P. Luseco.
The study was conducted from July 2017 to September 2018 at Graphic Arts Building of Cavite State University-CCAT and Familyville in Tanza, Cavite to develop a digital multipurpose compass. Specifically, this study aimed to 1) design the digital multipurpose compass; 2) construct the prototype out of the availability of the materials; and 3) evaluate the digital multipurpose compass through: comparison between caliper and the prototype; speed performance of drawing circles; and respondents’ perception on the functionality, construction, effectiveness, economy and safety.
The prototype was designed with three (3) major parts namely: digital readout, compass housing and arm/Iegs. The digital readout displays the measurement of the circles. Compass housing holds two legs and the center point in place while the arm/ legs are attached to the movable carriage through the support of the center point.
The results of the evaluation through comparison between the digital multipurpose compass and caliper are almost the same. When using the digital multipurpose compass to draw a circle with different radius, it would take two seconds to draw a small circle. In a big circle, it would take three seconds to thoroughly draw a complete circle, and for a bigger scale of a circle, it would take one second to draw a perfect circle. The digital multipurpose compass received a descriptive interpretation of Very Satisfactory from the 30 respondents who evaluated the prototype.
