A Research Study (LSHS) -- Cavite State University-CCAT Campus, 2019.
Includes bibliographical references and appendices.
The study was conducted from August 2018 to June 2019 to determine the effectiveness of different concentrations of Madre de Cacao (G. sepium) leaf extract in controlling mealy bug in sambong leaves were collected in Rio de Oro General Trias City, Cavite. The leaves were oven dried and pulverized and ethanol extraction was performed in the laboratory to extract compounds from the leave to be used as ingredient for the insecticide. The effect of the concentration of the leaf extract and the interval of application towards the mortality rate if the mealy bugs in fresh sambong leaves were investigated. The study showed high mortality rates among the replicates which increases with the concentration of the leaf extracts. Furthermore, mortality rates were highest when concentration of leaf extracts applied was highest and 4-hour and 6-hour intervals of application do not vary significantly but have better effects than the 2-hour interval. Madre de cacao leaf extract has properties like tannin which can be used as an ingredient for insecticide. These extracts could be used to eradicate Citrus mealy bugs. The higher amount of leaf extracts results to higher mortality rates of the insect at 4-hour or 6-hour intervals of application.
